Wandering Through Wonderland

I'm here in Japan - wondering what I'm doing, besides thinking of you?

Dancing Queens

Okay, here are some pictures of the dancing girls, as well as a few (rather low-quality, my apologies) videos.

I can't figure out how to get the youtube screen on my blog, or if it is even possible - anyone who knows more about this stuff than me should feel obligated to help. Until then use the links below. I would recommend maximizing the screen if you want to actually see anything. (Note to Grandma, dad, etc: If you click on the link a video will start to load. In the bottom right corner of the video screen - not the browser window - there will be two small squares. Click on the one furthest to the right.)

School Festival

So the school festival was on Friday, the 15th and Saturday, the 16th. On Friday it was just the teachers and students, and on Saturday the general public was invited to attend. Aside from some incredibly lude (and poorly pronounced) comments by several alumni boys, I had a blast. Students and teachers kept asking me about the American equivalent to such an event, and I had to repeatedly tell them that we have none. Sad, but true. I don't think you could get American high school students to put forth so much effort for such an event. I was blown away by how hard everyone worked, and how much fun I had.

Every homeroom and many club activities set something up for the festival. This first set of photos are some of the homeroom activities.

This is one of the third-year homerooms. I think their theme was Hawaii, or something along those lines. They sold beef stew for lunch. I dined with my vice principal on the first day.

This is another third-year class that sold "dango" (I think that's what it was called). It's a traditional Japanese food - made out of rice I think? They are served on skewers and came with either sesame or soy sauce. The picture is of their cherry blossom tree they made, and the woman in the picture is my vice principal.

These are some of the first-year girls that I teach at their flea market.

I think this is a third-year class too, selling icecream. There are a lot of students to keep track of, and a lot of them don't actually use their own homerooms, which makes things quite confusing.

My English Club girls after Friday's scavenger hunt - that was our festival activity.

Two of my second-year students after participating in the English Club scavenger hunt.

Decorations for one of the third-year class's haunted house. I screamed the entire time.

Trevor (the other ALT) and I with the tea ceremony girls.

Some members of the music club, rockin' out. Yes, that is a towel around his head.

Some second-year students bobbing for water balloon yoyos.

Okay, that's what I have from the festival, aside from the Dance Club pictures which still need to be put on my computer. I will take care of that later today.
